Getting Started with Global Edge
We know that starting the college recruiting and advising process comes with a lot of questions. Below are some of the most common topics families ask about before getting started. These answers are meant to help you understand how Global Edge works and what to expect from the process. More personalized strategies and evaluations are discussed during your advising session.
How to get started with Global Edge?
To get started and learn more about how Global Edge College Consultants can help achieve college goals and aspirations, prospective students and their families are invited to schedule a free introductory discovery call. This conversation provides an opportunity to connect personally, discuss what makes Global Edge unique, and review available services. It also ensures the partnership is the right fit before any commitments are made.
How does the college advising process work?
The college advising process is customized to meet each student’s individual goals and needs. Global Edge College Consultants offers support across several key areas of the college enrollment and recruitment journey, including holistic college advising, college research and shortlisting, applications and admissions guidance, highlight reel analysis, performance evaluation, and immigration and visa support. Each session is designed to provide knowledgeable insight and actionable direction, giving every student a true edge in their college pursuits.
Does Global Edge work with student-athletes from all sports or only soccer?
Global Edge College Consultants works with students from a wide range of athletic and academic backgrounds, helping each individual navigate the college search and admissions process with clarity and confidence. While our expert consultants support students across all sports and academic interests, the comprehensive partnership programs are tailored specifically for men’s and women’s soccer student-athletes, where Global Edge offers extensive expertise, experience, and professional connections within the collegiate soccer landscape.
Are sessions conducted in person or virtually?
Most sessions are conducted virtually to accommodate students and families regardless of location or time zone. However, in-person meetings may be arranged when scheduling and geography allow - particularly for services such as performance evaluations that will benefit from direct observation.
Can families book multiple sessions or ongoing advising support?
Yes. Families often choose to book multiple sessions when support is needed across different stages of the college search, recruiting, and admissions process. Sessions can be scheduled individually or as part of a bundled package that offers additional value and savings.
Global Edge College Consultants provides several tailored options — including the College Advising Bundle, Performance Evaluation Package, Recruitment Foundations Package, and Application Success Package. For families seeking comprehensive, end-to-end guidance, the Comprehensive Partnership Program offers ongoing collaboration with Global Edge’s expert consultants, working directly alongside each student to build meaningful connections with college coaches and identify the best opportunities for success.
How much do Global Edge services cost?
Most individual advising sessions begin at $100 for a one-hour consultation, providing personalized guidance tailored to each student’s goals. Services that involve additional preparation or follow-up work such as performance evaluations and detailed feedback reports, are priced slightly higher to reflect the added time, travel, and expertise involved.
Because every student’s needs are unique, pricing for packages and ongoing programs is discussed during the free introductory discovery call, where families can learn more about the options that best fit their goals and budget.
Does Global Edge communicate directly with college coaches?
Direct communication with college coaches is an exclusive feature of the Comprehensive Partnership Program. Through this program, Global Edge College Consultants takes on a limited number of student-athletes each year, offering a personalized, team-like partnership experience.
Under the leadership of Principal Consultant Gavin Penny, each student is represented with the same professionalism and dedication that defined his years as a collegiate head coach. Gavin actively leverages his extensive network of college coaches and programs to identify best-fit schools, advocate on behalf of each student, and open doors to the right opportunities.
How many athletes does a Global Edge Consultant work with at any one time?
Global Edge College Consultants was founded on the belief that bigger isn’t always better. After experiencing how large recruiting organizations can struggle to maintain consistent communication and individualized support due to overextended staff, Founder and Principal Consultant Gavin Penny set out to create a more personal and accountable approach to college advising.
At Global Edge, every student is treated as a priority, not a placement. Within the Comprehensive Partnership Programs, Gavin manages his roster much like his collegiate teams: emphasizing communication, accountability, and genuine investment in each student’s journey. The roster is intentionally limited to just 33 student-athletes across the sophomore, junior, and senior classes (11 per year), allowing for the dedicated time, attention, and personalized support that families deserve from their investment.
How is Global Edge different from what a school counselor or club coach provides?
Global Edge College Consultants was founded to bridge the gap between what schools and clubs can offer and what families truly need during the college search and recruiting process. Founder and Principal Consultant Gavin Penny has seen firsthand, both as a collegiate coach and as a college consultant, that most club and high school staff simply do not have the time or capacity to provide individualized college advising in addition to their many other responsibilities.
While many coaches and counselors offer valuable support, they are often managing large groups of students and lack direct experience working with college coaches or understanding the nuances of athletic recruitment. Global Edge was designed to change that — providing the time, expertise, and one-on-one attention every student deserves, with an experienced consultant dedicated solely to their college goals.
Does Global Edge work with international students?
Yes. Global Edge College Consultants works with students from around the world who are pursuing college opportunities in the United States. Founder and Principal Consultant Gavin Penny brings a unique international perspective as a dual citizen who was once an international student himself. He personally navigated the permanent residency and U.S. citizenship process without legal assistance and understands the complexities international families often face.
In addition to his personal experience, Gavin has recruited student-athletes globally during his tenure as a collegiate head coach and has also served as an NCAA Director of Compliance, giving him deep insight into NCAA rules, eligibility, and amateurism requirements.
